RH DRAG SERIES: DELTA WORK OF RUPAUL'S DRAG RACE


This week for our special Drag Series we spoke with Delta Work from LOGO's Rupaul's Drag Race. She spoke about some of the other queens in the business who have inspired her, plus she dished on her friends "The Heathers".

RH: Who is Delta Work as a drag queen performer?

Delta Work: I AM A DEDICATED AND PROFESSIONAL ENTERTAINER WHO SEEKS TO TAKE MY AUDIENCE TO A DIFFERENT PLACE, TIME, MOOD, EMOTION AND FEELING.


RH: How long have you been doing drag & how did you get started?

Delta Work: I BEGAN MY DRAG CARRER AT THE AGE OF 22 AS A CONTESTANT IN AN AMATEUR DRAG COMPETITION.  THAT COMPETITON HAS GROWN TO BE THE LARGEST OF ITS KIND IN CALIFORNIA AND I WORK AS A PERMANENT CAST MEMBER AT THE BAR WHERE THAT CONTEST WAS ORIGINALLY HELD. FULL CIRCLE.


RH: How did you decide to audition for Rupaul's Drag Race?

Delta Work: I DECIDED TO AUDITION BECAUSE I FELT LIKE THE SHOW WOULD BE A GREAT VEHICLE FOR NATIONAL EXPOSURE. I AUDITIONED FOR SEASON 2, ORIGINALLY.


RH: What girls on the show did you connect with & become friends with?

Delta Work: “THE HEATHERS” (RAJA, MANILA and CARMEN), INDIA FERRAH, STACY, MIMI IMFURST, PHOENIX. I CONNECTED WITH ALL OF THE GIRLS DIFFERENTLY ON DIFFERENT LEVELS. I SURELY LEARNED SOMETHING VALUABLE FROM EACH OF THEM.


RH: How did you feel when you first met Rupaul for the very first time?

Delta Work: COMPLETELY IN AWE. I FIRST MET RUPAUL IN 1995 WHEN SHE BROUGHT HER VH1 TALK SHOW TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA.


RH: When it comes time to perform & design your show costumes where do you get your inspiration?

Delta Work: MY INSPIRATION GENERALLY COEMS FROM THE PAST: PULP FICTION NOVEL COVERS, JEZEBELS, VAMPS, 1960S SECRETARIES, 1940S HEROINES, RUSS MEYER, BETTIE PAGE, MAE WEST.
RH: Are there any queens within the industry that you look up to?

Delta Work: I AM NOT SURE WHO LOOKS UP TO ME BUT I CAN SAFELY SAY I LOOK UP TO SEVERAL ENTERTAINERS LIKE VARLA JEAN MERMAN, BABETTE SCHWARTZ, ERICA ANDREWS, MIMI MARKS.


RH: Is there anything that you would do differently on the show?

Delta Work: PERHAPS I WOULD HAVE HELD A FEW CARDS INSTEAD OF SHOWING THEM ALL AT ONE TIME.

RH: What has being in the industry of drag & being on the show taught you as a person & performer?

Delta Work: THE INDUSTRY HAS TAUGHT ME TO HAVE THICK SKIN.
